Wounded people have empty spaces that long to be filled.  Some of us fill them with alcohol, others with sex, some with food, and the list goes on.  The bottom line is that only God can satisfy our souls.  There isn't any person or thing that can make us “feel” satisfied or complete. 

 

When God reveals weak areas that are related to this need, it is  important for us to pray more and more healing into the wound.  It is also important for us to cry out to God and ask Him to satisfy.  When we hunger and thirst for things other than our Heavenly Father, those things can actually become idols in our lives.  None of that is pleasing to God and it will stunt our growth and keep us searching for more.  Before we can move further in finding our satisfaction through God, we must first recognize how we have been trying to fill our voids.  Then, we must run to Jesus and ask for His help. 

 

Exodus 20:2-5a 

I am the Lord your God who rescued you from slavery in Egypt.  Do not worship any other gods besides me.  Do not make idols of any kind, whether in the shape of birds or animals or fish.  You must never worship them or bow down to them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not share your affection with any other god.......”

 

Mark 12:29-31 

Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this, ‘Hear, O Israel!  The Lord our God is the one and only Lord.  And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.  The second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself.  No other commandment is greater than these.”

 

1:  Pray and ask God to reveal anyone or anything that has taken Jesus’ place as Lord. 

 

2:  Ask Him to reveal the voids and what is being used to fill those empty places.

 

3:  List all of the wounds that God reveals and ask Him to fill those places.

Sample Prayer for Satisfaction

 

Dear Heavenly Father, You know the wounds that life has inflicted and the pain I have endured.  As a result, I have needs that were never met, voids that were never filled; I’m so very tired of searching for ways to find completion.  I want you, Lord.  I know that you love me.  I know that you are my Father.  I know that you have great plans for me and that you desire my best.  So, I come before you now and I ask you to search me.  I ask you to find all of my wounds and place your healing hands upon them.  I ask you to search carefully and find all of my empty spaces, all of the voids in my life.  Oh Father, I ask you to fill them, thoroughly fill them with your Holy Spirit.  I ask you to locate any areas of need and meet them as only you can.  Satisfy me, Lord.  Please satisfy me!  I know that there is nobody else who can!  I bow down at the foot of the cross and I ask you Lord to do in me what only you can do.  I love you Lord.  Be my passion. Be everything to me.  In Jesus name, I pray all of these things, amen.

Sample Prayer for Forgiveness of Idolatry

 

Dear Heavenly Father, I know that you want to be my first love.  Please forgive me for loving _____________ more than you.  Please, forgive me for trying to find my joy and satisfaction in this way.  Please, be Lord over this area of my life and help me to find my satisfaction in you.  Thank you for hearing my prayer and for forgiving me.  In Jesus name, I pray all of these things, amen.
